The Faust-Paraphrases are partly strong and dramatic in style, contrasted with more finely tuned gentle passages. The work was inspired by the Goethes literary work. Influence from Franz Liszt‘s „Faust-Symphonie“ and „Mephisto-Walzer“ can be heard throughout the composition. The development of Lizts musical material, which can also be heard in the works of other 20th century composers, has inspired the tonal colour of this work, as well as many of the composer`s other works.
